While at St. Jude last month our group of beauty editors had a tour of the hospital and got a better understanding of not only what they do, but how they work with families to make such a difficult life experience into a better one. Did you know that it takes $1.8 million per day to operate St. Jude? Donations and opportunities like Genifique Day, where $7 of every Lancome Genifique and Genifique Eye Light-Pearl purchase on October 19, 2012 will go towards St. Jude to cover the operating costs.
Here are some posters that were made by the children at St. Jude. It’s called something like the A-Z Wall of Cancer, I don’t recall the “official” name. The kids have taken a letter of the alphabet and related it to their cancer experience in a way that was personal to them. Here are a few that I snapped photos of. These children are amazing and so incredibly strong.
One of the days we were there we also got to go into the Teen Room at St. Jude. It is a room that typically only teens are allowed to be in – no parents, no staff. On this particular day it was makeup day with some teen girls and Lancome. Mickey Williams, makeup artist for Lancome, answered questions from the teens about makeup, applied their makeup and showed them how to apply their makeup on their own, enhancing the features they wanted to shine. It was such fun talking with the girls and hearing their stories and seeing their faces light up when Mickey was done applying their makeup. (Below)
We also got to meet a little six year old girl named Mae, who is going thru treatment at St. Jude, along with her mom. Her mom told us all that St. Jude has done for them and what it means to them to be able to be there. Mae was such a spitfire and had such a joyous personality that we were all practically in tears from laughing and Mae entertaining us! You’ll get to see Mae in an upcoming commercial with Jennifer Aniston. The week before they filmed the commercial which is set to air either in November or December (I don’t recall which month). I hope her bright personality shines through on the commercials, I don’t doubt that it will.
I hope you consider purchasing Lancome Genifique this Friday, Oct. 19th. Opportunities like this really do make a difference.
Thanks to Lancome for the trip to St. Jude to learn more about St. Jude and Lancome for an unforgettable opportunity.
